Who each one is for

In a sentence or two

Zoho Invoice

A free, general-purpose invoicing tool from a large software suite. Best if you already use other Zoho products and are happy with the 500-invoice cap and the Zoho branding.

Not trade-specific: no deposits-and-milestones schedule on an invoice.

GlideQuoteTRADES

Phone-first quoting and invoicing for people who work from the van: quote on site, convert to an invoice with a tap, send the PDF by WhatsApp or email.

Every document carries your logo, brand colour, numbering, headings and footers the way you set them.

Tide Invoicing

Invoicing built into a business current account. The natural choice if you bank with Tide; invoices carry your Tide account details automatically.

"Get Invoices Paid" subscription £9.99 + VAT a month includes Invoice Assistant (their page).

Invoice Simple

A large, simple US invoice maker with one of the biggest App Store review counts in the category. Fine for a handful of invoices; the Essentials tier stops at 3 a month.

UK pricing in pounds is not shown on the vendor page.

SumUp Invoices

Free invoicing from the card-reader company. Makes most sense if you already bank and take cards with SumUp, since free-plan payments land in a SumUp account.

Online invoice payments by card carry a 2.5% fee (their page).

Bookipi

A free-forever invoice maker with a paid tier for volume. The free cap counts quotes and invoices together, so 3 documents a month in total.

Professional US$39 / month billed annually.

ServiceM8TRADES

Job management first, invoicing second: scheduling, job cards and staff. Suits a small team that needs dispatch, and the free tier covers 30 jobs a month.

Growing £59, Premium £119, Premium Plus £269 a month.

Powered NowTRADES

UK job-management software for trades: scheduling, forms and certificates, team features. Suits a firm with office staff and several engineers.

£280 a year for Business when paid annually (their page).

YourTradebaseTRADES

UK quoting and invoicing for trades with a longer trial than most. One flat price plus a per-user add-on.

Free account limits are not published on the pricing page.

TradifyTRADES

Job management for trade businesses with staff: quotes, scheduling, timesheets, invoicing. Every plan is priced per user.

Custom tier priced by request.

FergusTRADES

Trade job management aimed at growing firms. On the day we checked, the page showed a limited "90% off til December" promotion (£3.90 / £4.50 a month).

Enterprise tier for 10+ staff priced through sales.

JobberTRADES

Field-service management from Canada: scheduling, dispatch, client hub, team plans up to 15 users. Built for businesses with crews.

Connect, Grow and Plus tiers run from US$139 to US$699 a month.

What makes GlideQuote different

Your paperwork, your way

Most apps in the table give you a logo field and a template. GlideQuote is built so that every quote, invoice and receipt looks like it came from your business, not from an app — and so that the way you get paid is a setting you control, not a rule the app imposes:

  1. Branding: your logo and your brand colour on every quote, invoice and receipt — any hex colour, not a fixed palette — plus a company stamp and signature on the documents you choose (Pro).
  2. Wording: your own heading text on invoices and receipts, your own footer text per document type, notes and terms templates per job type that fill in automatically (Pro), and a document language that is independent of the app language.
  3. Numbering: invoice, quote and credit-note prefixes with their own running numbers (NG-001, NG-002…), set once and carried forward.
  4. Tax, your way: enter your own VAT, GST or sales-tax rate (any value from 0 to 100), switch withholding tax on with your own rate, and choose whether your tax ID appears on invoices. The rules of the UK, Thailand, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the USA are built in.
  5. Deposits: ask for an upfront payment as a percentage of the total or a fixed amount, shown on the quote and carried onto the invoice as the first stage (Pro).
  6. Milestone payments: split one invoice into a deposit plus balance or up to five milestones, each with its own amount and due date, so a long job is paid as it progresses (Pro).
  7. Security deposits: hold a refundable deposit on an invoice, kept out of the VAT total, tracked until you return it, with a return-due reminder (Pro).
  8. Currencies: invoice in any of 40 currencies, formatted the way the customer expects (£1,234.56 or 1.234,56 €) (Pro).
  9. Terms and discounts per document: due on receipt or a number of days, and a discount as a percentage or a fixed amount, on any quote or invoice.
  10. Saved line items: every item you send is saved automatically and sorted by most used, so the next quote is a few taps, not a retype.
  11. Saved clients: your customers are kept with their details, imported from your phone contacts if you like, so a repeat job starts with the client already filled in.

Get paid by card (Pro). Every invoice can carry a Stripe pay link and a QR code. Your customer taps or scans, pays the balance due by card through Stripe Checkout, and the money lands in your own Stripe account — not ours. It works in every country Stripe supports, and the invoice shows the payment the moment Stripe confirms it.

And the rest

What else is in the box

  • Quote, invoice, receipt: build the quote on site, turn it into the invoice with one tap, and issue the receipt when it is paid — three documents, one flow.
  • Send it anywhere: the PDF goes by email, WhatsApp, LINE, AirDrop or straight to a printer, from the phone, before you leave the job.
  • Bank details on every invoice: sort code and account number, IBAN, BSB/PayID or PromptPay, so the customer can pay you directly.
  • Credit notes with their own numbering, to cancel or reduce an invoice you have already issued.
  • Monthly and yearly reports, exported to CSV or PDF for you or your accountant.
  • Calendar sync, site visits and call-backs: jobs, due dates and quote expiry on your Dashboard and in your phone calendar (Pro).
  • Reminders: invoice due, milestone due and deposit-return reminders on your phone (Pro).
  • Works on iPhone, iPad, Android and Apple-silicon Macs, in English or Thai, with the tax rules of six countries built in.
Common questions

People ask us

Is there a free invoicing app for UK tradespeople?
Yes. GlideQuote’s Free plan is permanent and includes unlimited invoices and receipts with your logo, VAT and bank details on every PDF. Zoho Invoice is free up to 500 invoices a year with Zoho branding, SumUp Invoices is free when payments go into a SumUp account, and ServiceM8 is free up to 30 jobs a month. Tide and Bookipi give 3 documents a month free.
Do I need a trade-specific app, or will a general invoice app do?
A general invoice maker will produce an invoice; a trade business needs more than that. Trades usually need three things a general app lacks: a quote that becomes the invoice with one tap, a deposit and staged payments on one invoice, and VAT handled correctly for a registered business. GlideQuote, Powered Now, Tradify, YourTradebase, Fergus, ServiceM8 and Jobber are built around trades; Zoho, SumUp, Tide, Invoice Simple and Bookipi are general.
Which apps show their prices in pounds?
GlideQuote, Zoho Invoice, SumUp, ServiceM8, Tide, Powered Now, YourTradebase, Tradify and Fergus publish GBP prices. Invoice Simple, Bookipi and Jobber publish US-dollar prices on the pages we checked; what you pay in pounds depends on the exchange rate on the day.
What has to be on a UK VAT invoice?
The main items are your VAT number, a unique invoice number and the date, your business name and address, the customer’s name and address, a description of the goods or services, the amount before VAT, the VAT rate and amount, and the total. GlideQuote puts all of these on every invoice once you switch VAT on with your registration details; if you are not registered, leave it off and no VAT line appears.
Can my customers pay by card?
Yes, on Pro. Connect your own Stripe account once in Settings; from then on every invoice carries a Stripe pay link and a QR code. The customer pays the balance due by card through Stripe Checkout and the money goes straight to your Stripe account. Bank transfer and PromptPay details stay on the invoice as well.
What does GlideQuote cost?
Free: unlimited invoices and receipts, your logo, VAT and bank details on every PDF, monthly and yearly reports — with a small GlideQuote watermark. Pro: £4.17 a month billed annually (£49.99 a year) or £6.99 month to month, and the first month is free.
