NZ$
This amount is
How it is calculated
Adding GST: GST = price × 0.15 · total = price + GST
GST inside a GST-inclusive price: GST = total × 3 ÷ 23 · price excluding GST = total − GST (15 ÷ 115 simplifies to 3 ÷ 23).
Worked example: NZ$100 excluding GST → GST NZ$15.00 → NZ$115.00. The other way: NZ$115 × 3 ÷ 23 = NZ$15.00 GST, NZ$100.00 excluding GST.
Common questions
Why multiply by 3 and divide by 23?
15 ÷ 115 simplifies to 3 ÷ 23, so NZ$115 including GST × 3 ÷ 23 = NZ$15 GST. It is the exact way to pull a 15% tax out of a price that already includes it.
Do I have to charge GST?
Only if you are registered for GST. Inland Revenue sets the registration turnover threshold — check ird.govt.nz for the current figure.
Is GST the same everywhere in New Zealand?
Yes. GST is a single national rate of 15%.
How does GlideQuote show GST on an invoice?
